Since the advent of siachen conflict both militaries are confronting each other and competing for complete hegemony over their adversaries. This area is comprised of many glaciers adjacent to Chinese controlled shaksam valley. Pakistan’s position is very clear that indian withdrawal is the only demand and option which is constantly echoed through Islamabad. For them india illegally occupied Pakistani territory from NJ 9842 to Karakoram Pass and the territory northwest to it up to indra col.
Pakistan military moved in to stop further indian advance in the area and snatched the initiative from them, now it’s a logistical nightmare for them to maintain permanent presence there. Stalemate has served status quo for both sides. No side is benefiting from this impassable terrain. Economic meltdown is raising concerns for them; frozen weather conditions and inapproachable terrain are the other extremes of this conflict which has resulted in thousands of amputations and deaths. From the severity of this conflict it is evident that Indians are not willing to vacate their positions, many rounds of talks have been conducted to discuss the modalities of the issue. But they remain futile and did not yield any outcome. For Indians it’s the only area that can serve to lodge their claim against Chinese presence there. It provides not only strategic wedge against Pak-China alliance but also serves a pressure point against Pakistani ambitions. This overview is essential to understand the gravity of the situation and the majority of Pakistanis don’t know why india is not interested to relinquish this area. From a Pakistani perspective it is important to highlight the significance of siachen. Because through this deployment of forces Pakistan has almost halted indian mischievous desires to threaten KKH, the only road link between Pakistan and China. Pakistani military establishment is well aware of this scenario and perceive colossal threat and has convinced them to take solid measures against the enemy. Pakistan cannot rollback its forces unilaterally unless their counterpart india show signs to solve the dispute. Money and other resources are no match for the strategic value and the locality of this glacier. We must strengthen our positions there and fight till Indians forced to leave our land.
We must secure KKH trade route which is vital for our economical interests.
